Under the planning stage are state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate deep draft vessels to be able to provide high quality service at an attractive price to port users. The Government plans to develop a SEZ close to the port. This will add to the envisaged traffic volumes and increase the opportunities for trade and industry in the District.

Phase-I development, completed by March, 2009, four berths are completed – two mechanized Iron Ore Berths with an export capacity of 9 MTPA, a mechanized Coal Berth with an import capacity of 7 MTPA and a mechanized General Cargo Berth with a handling capacity of 3.0 MTPA. The depths at berths would be (-) 15 m with a turning circle of (-) 15.6 m and a channel of (-) 16.2 m.

Rail line connecting Krishnapatnam Port to the existing Venkatachalam siding on the main North-South rail route is completed, to coincide with the commissioning of Phase-I of the Port.

A 21-km long four lane road with 6-lane ROW is laid parallel to the railway line at a cost of Rs.147 crores from NH-5 to the Krishnapatnam Port. Also provision is made for a 8 metre pipe line corridor along the rail-road.
